Chapter 2 - You might just get by doing nothing (2)
“It might have looked strange, but this should be good enough.”
After quickly put down everything that violated the school rules, I immediately handed them over to Hong Seol.
She couldn’t hide her confusion at Lee Ji-woon’s unusual appearance, but fortunately, she let me go without saying much.
If I had known this would happen, I should have paid more attention to my outfit from the beginning, but sadly, instinct is not something that can be easily resisted.
As Lee Ji-woon’s body remembered, I naturally prepared for school, and before I knew it, I was even wearing cumbersome piercings and earrings. Realizing this mistake belatedly, I wonder if I had somehow become synchronized with Lee Ji-woon to some extent.
Anyway, I escaped the crisis, but the danger was still lurking. It also felt like my buttocks, which had only ever experienced excretion in my life, were starting to hurt.
Because, the woman I just passed by was one of the heroines in the work.
‘Hong Seol.’
Hong Seol, the head of student discipline Committee at Raon High School, was a cold and haughty senior, but inside, she was a warm, typical sister-like heroine.
Naturally, as the head of discipline Committee, she was a character who got entangled a lot with the villain, Lee Ji-woon, and as they got entangled, they exchanged many conflicts and got hurt. Although she pretended to be strong on the outside, she was ultimately a soft-hearted person inside.
However, in the process, the protagonist intervenes, and she receives a lot of help from him, naturally developing affection. It’s somewhat similar to a salvation story.
In the end, with the power of love and justice(?), they manage to send Lee Ji-woon to the juvenile detention center, so in the end, they bear their own fruit.
Of course, for them, it was the fruit of love, and for me, it was just a horrific dark future.
"It’s only natural and expected for the villain to be thoroughly taught a lesson. However, regrettably, the one playing Lee Ji-woon right now is none other than me.
As if it wasn’t enough that my life was turned upside down in just one day, now I’m supposed to offer up my dignity to the thugs? I absolutely cannot accept this. No matter what it takes, I will struggle to escape from this predetermined future. No matter what anyone says. I will Definitely do it.
‘It seems I’ve managed to respond quite well for now…’
As long as I live obediently, even if not as a model student, I won’t have to get involved with Hong Seol.
Of course, I was somewhat pleased to actually encounter a character from the game, and I was almost captivated by her beauty, which was even more stunning than when seen on the monitor. But that’s one thing, and this is another.
No matter how much the heroines show off themselves, if it involves my dignity, I cannot recklessly take on that risk. In other words, the risk is too great compared to the return."
"If I really wanted to engage in a love affair, it wouldn’t be bad to look elsewhere. But this is the world within a dating sim game. As they say, even if it’s rotten, it’s still worth something. Even the passing extras are extraordinary men and women scattered throughout this universe.
There are plenty of opportunities. The most important thing is not to get involved with the main characters of the work. It’s crucial to wait until their interest in me has completely disappeared.
‘…It won’t be easy, though.’
Is it because of the unique aura that Lee Ji-woon has? Even though I’m just walking by, I can feel the fear in the eyes of the students looking at me.
It’s probably because this place is a prestigious high school. After all, these kids have lived their school lives as model students or close to it, so they must feel a great aversion to dealing with such a thug.
I wonder how much time it will take to change this perception. When I recall Lee Ji-woon’s memories, I remember causing trouble from the first day of the entrance ceremony, so I’ve definitely ruined the first impression.
It was total mess in front of all the first-year students and teachers. It would be impossible unless it was a really extreme situation. With this in mind, could Lee Ji-woon be someone who is truly close to pure evil?"
Really, I couldn’t help but sigh.
‘Hoo…’
“You know how to sigh? You didn’t even blink when you caused trouble.”
“There are things like I've been through that others absolutely don’t know about… No, damn it I'm freaking shocked!!”
I was momentarily lost in thought at the sudden voice and I was startled belatedly.
Was it because the voice was too familiar? To be precise, it would have been a familiar voice from the perspective of Lee Ji-woon, the original owner of the body.
“What? What’s going on? Let me in on it too.”
“No, it’s just… going to school after a long time feels a bit awkward.”
“Look at you, dodging the question. And why has your tone suddenly become so gentle? They say you rolled around three times after colliding with a car, have you finally grown up?”
The female student chuckled and playfully hit my arm. The only person who could have such a casual conversation with Lee Ji-woon was, of course, only one person in the story.
It was Lee Ye-ji. She wasn’t a heroine in the work, but one of the villains who tormented the heroines along with Lee Ji-woon.
I heard that she has been hanging out with Lee Ji-woon since middle school, and as if to prove it, she was a woman with strikingly dyed blonde hair and tanned skin.
In Japan, they often call them ‘gyaru,’ right? Heavy makeup with short skirts. And those with strange hairstyles and skin tones.
Of course, compared to them, the intensity was lacking, but Lee Ye-ji’s style was quite similar. It was still a mystery how she managed to get past Hong Seol at the main gate with that outfit.
“Ah, that crazy girl? I avoid getting involved with her by going over the fence to and from school every day. We used to hang out all the time in middle school, and now suddenly…”
Listening to this, it seems that neither Lee Ji-woon nor Lee Ye-ji used to enter through the main gate in the story. Well, it’s unlikely that these thugs would pass directly through the radar of the prestigious high school’s student discipline team. Of course, they would eventually get caught after a while.
I wonder how on earth this guy was able to get into Raon High School. In the case of Lee Ji-woon, it was said that he had the advantage in foreign languages and his parents’ backing, but there was no explanation in the story about how Lee Ye-ji got in.
Could it be what they often call a plot hole? Still, eventually, as Lee Ji-woon ends up kneeling down, Lee Ye-ji naturally blends into Raon High School. Shedding her gyaru image, her appearance turned out to be more charming than expected, and she was often paired with the protagonist in secondary works, as I recall.
Is this what they often call NTR? There are plenty of works where the model student falls for the golden sun, but the opposite case is not common. Maybe that’s why it was more memorable.
Anyway, why should that be so important? From my perspective, she was the only one among the main and supporting characters who I could comfortably talk to.
From the protagonist’s perspective, Lee Ye-ji was a truly annoying character, but now to me, she felt like the only companion. Even though she had many flaws, looking at her from a different angle, I strangely found her presence very pleasing.
“So… why haven’t you been answering my calls recently?”
“…Huh?”
“I told you when I visited you in the hospital. You should look at your smartphone once in a while. You don’t have to check KakaoTalk, but you should at least answer the phone!”
“No, it’s just… I’ve been a bit preoccupied…”
“…Why are you talking like this? You’re acting weird today. You were like this earlier too. Are you hiding something from me!?”
Why did the atmosphere suddenly become so confrontational? It seemed like she felt greatly upset that I hadn’t answered her calls, even though she had visited me in the hospital.
But I was really on edge because I had just been possessed yesterday, and my smartphone had been dead for a long time, so it only just finished charging this morning. It was a bit unfair, but the truth was too absurd to tell, so I could only listen silently.
Lee Ye-ji, who had been shooting daggers at me for a while, then thrust her hand out toward me, as if asking for something.
“Smartphone!”
“…Huh?”
“Your smartphone! Give me your smartphone!!”
“All of a sudden?”
“Whenever you run out of battery, you don’t think twice before grabbing mine. Now, all of a sudden, there’s an issue? It’s fine for you to use my stuff, but not okay for me to use yours!?”
I didn’t really feel like showing it, but once again, Lee Ji-woon’s usual behavior caught up with him.
Why did this guy live so recklessly? Apart from what was seen from the protagonist’s point of view, it seemed like he had stirred up quite a lot of trouble.
So, with no other choice, I pulled out the smartphone from my pocket, and Lee Ye-ji snatched it up and stared intently at it for a while, searching for something vigorously.
Her fingers moved back and forth across the screen, and then suddenly, she started glaring at me with eyes sparkling with intensity. It was as if she was a predator eyeing its prey.
“You… who is Kim Yeon-hee?”
“....?”
“Who is Kim Yeon-hee!! What is this woman sending you KakaoTalk messages? And with all those hearts attached to them??”
No, I really don’t know. How would I know who Lee Ji-woon usually contacts and lives with? Lee Ye-ji, fuming, scrolled through the conversation history and without hesitation, immediately blocked her. It was a lightning-fast movement, leaving no chance to intervene.
“That’s the girl who got your number before. Don’t be fooled by such a foxy girl, okay? These kinds of girls play with men, juggling them around… Ugh, such foxes.”
Lee Ye-ji, who had been speaking irritably, handed me the smartphone and then showed a rather satisfied smile. It was hard to tell whether she was angry or happy, as her personality was indistinguishable at that moment.
Anyway, it seemed like her anger had subsided, so I didn’t bother bringing up any unnecessary conversation.
“So, before you meet a girl, you have to show me first, okay? Don’t you know that women understand other women better? Girls who act all shy like her are the ones who play games behind your back, really.”
As far as I know, Lee Ji-woon and Lee Ye-ji were in different classes, but as we talked, I found myself in front of Lee Ji-woon’s class.
Despite that, Lee Ye-ji’s words showed no sign of stopping, so it seemed she might even come into our class.
It wasn’t a big deal, but I had to stop walking for a moment. I had to calm my trembling heart and settle the sharpness in my eyes caused by the tension.
“What, what is it? Is something wrong?”
“…No, nothing.”
“What’s with you. You’re acting strange again.”
"Lee Ye-ji chuckled dismissively, but for me, it was an entirely different matter. It was a turning point for my future. The main characters of the work who would determine it were right beyond this door.
Creak-
As the door opened, I felt all eyes pouring onto me. And there, two very familiar faces as well.
The protagonist and the main heroine of the work.
Now, it was time to face them.
